Water levels in the River Itchen remain high but are fairly stable. Heavy rainfall is forecast today (Monday 09/03/2020) with up to 20mm expected. If this rain affects the river, then by tomorrow (Tuesday 10/03/2020), it will rise and may cause some minor flooding to footpaths. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council installed flood barriers at River Park and Water Lane. There is no access to the Recreation Ground from Park Avenue. Water levels in the River Itchen remain high as a result of recent heavy rainfall and high groundwater levels. Unsettled conditions are set to continue at least until Thursday (12/03/2020) with light rain and showers but no significant rainfall totals. River levels will fall slightly but the river remains highly responsive to rainfall. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council installed flood barriers at River Park and Water Lane. There is no access to the Recreation Ground from Park Avenue. We are liaising with Winchester City Council. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 on Tuesday 10/03/2020.

Water levels in the River Itchen remain high and have risen a little as a result of heavy rainfall yesterday. Today, there could be some minor footpath flooding near to the Bishop on the Bridge Pub. Today and tomorrow (Saturday 07/03/2020) the weather will remain dry, this will help levels to fall. On Sunday (08/03/2020) and Monday (09/03/2020) further rain (15mm to 30mm) is forecast. Throughout this time, if 30mm of rain should affect the Itchen, then levels will rise and be slightly higher than they were in February 2020. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council installed flood barriers at River Park and Water Lane. There is no access to the Recreation Ground from Park Avenue. Water levels in the River Itchen are high and rising as a result of heavy rainfall today. In the last 24 hours, 12mm has been recorded at Otterbourne which has increased river levels. A further 20mm is possible for today (05/03/2020). Tomorrow (06/03/2020) and Saturday (07/03/2020) will be mainly dry, though unsettled weather is forecast to continue from Sunday (08/03/2020) and into next week. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barriers at River Park and Water Lane. There is no access to the Rec Ground from Park Avenue. We are liaising with Winchester City Council and our Professional Partners. Generally water levels will be much higher than normal and minor impact flooding will continue. Water levels in the River Itchen remain high. Today (01/03/2020) will be mainly dry. However, overnight into tomorrow (02/03/2020), 5-15mm of rainfall is forecast. The remainder of tomorrow (02/03/2020) and Tuesday (03/03/2020) are forecast to be fairly dry. Unsettled weather is set to return from the middle of the week. Unsettled conditions are expected to continue into Sunday (01/03/2020). Monday (02/03/2020) and Tuesday (03/03/2020) are forecast to be drier. River levels will increase slightly in response to the rainfall over the next few days. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. Water levels in the River Itchen remain high. 11mm of rain was recorded at Otterbourne overnight. River levels are increasing slowly in response to the overnight rainfall, and will continue to do so, during today. The remainder of the day and overnight is forecast to be dry. Tomorrow (28/02/2020) and Saturday (29/02/2020) further rainfall is forecast, a total of 16 to 25mm is expected. On Sunday (01/03/2020) and Monday (02/03/2020) it should be drier, but unsettled weather is set to return later next week. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. There is no access to the Rec Ground from Park Avenue. Water levels in the River Itchen at Winchester are high. After yesterday’s rain, river levels increased slightly but are now slowly falling. Today (25/02/2020), and tomorrow (26/02/2020) only small amounts of rain are forecast. This may allow the river to recover a little. From Thursday (27/02/2020) to Saturday (29/02/2020), 20 to 40mm of rain is forecast. Levels will remain high but stable this week, with the potential for minor impact flooding affecting footpaths. If maximum totals affect the river, then levels will be very high at City Mill and Wolvesey Lodge at the weekend. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. We are liaising with Winchester City Council. Water levels in the River Itchen at Winchester are high, river channels are full but levels have fallen over the last few days. Today (24/02/2020) up to 15mm of rain is forecast. This will see an increase in river levels and minor flood impacts will continue. On Tuesday (25/02/2020) through to Thursday (27/02/2020) small amounts of rain are forecast. On Friday (28/02/2020) heavier rain is possible. Levels will remain high but stable this week, with the potential for some minor impact flooding affecting footpaths. If heavy rain affects Winchester on Friday, then levels could be high at City Mill and Wolvesey Lodge at the weekend. As a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. We are liaising with Winchester City Council. Water levels in the River Itchen at Winchester are high and the river channels are full. Near The Bishop on the Bridge pub, the footpath has started to flood. Today (21/02/2020) and tomorrow (22/02/2020) should remain fairly dry. From Saturday evening (22/02/2020) through to Tuesday (25/02/2020) further rain is forecast, with 20mm expected. Sunday will be the wettest day. This may cause some out of bank flooding at North Walls Recreation Ground and River Park. Impacts, if any, would be relatively minor, but as a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. With barrier in place, we do not expect property flooding, although levels could be very high at Wolvesey Lodge and City Mill. We are liaising with Winchester City Council. There is no access to the Rec Ground from Park Avenue. Keep away from the river as water is deep and fast flowing. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 on Monday 24/02/2020.

Water levels in the River Itchen at Winchester are very high. In the last 3 days more than 80mm of rain has been recorded at Otterbourne. This is more than a month’s rain and follows a prolonged wet winter. Most of the river channels through Winchester are flowing at bank full. Tomorrow (Tuesday 18/02/2020) through to Thursday (20/02/2020) further rain is forecast. Rainfall totals are not large, but if they affect Winchester, then it may cause some out of bank flooding at North Walls Recreation Ground and River Park. Impacts, if any, would be relatively minor, but as a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. With barrier in place, we do not expect property flooding. We are in close liaison with Winchester City Council. The Rec Ground is currently open, but under constant review. Keep away from the river as water is deep and fast flowing. This Flood Alert will be updated by 15:00 on Friday 21/02/2020.
