Flood Alert issued on 31 Oct 2021 10:23
The water level in the Tilmore Brook is very high but currently stable. In the last 4 hours, 20mm of rain has been recorded in Petersfield, which is a large amount in a short period of time. Currently, at Winchester Road, there is a small blockage at the debris screen. The water level in the river is almost at the top of the bank. Environment Agency staff are currently in Petersfield (10:00 Sunday 31/10/21), and will be clearing the debris screen at Charles Street, before moving to Winchester Road. Rain has now cleared the area but showers, some heavy, are forecast throughout the rest of the day. At Winchester Road and at Charles Street, as soon as the blockages are removed, the water level will reduce rapidly. However, until at least 14:00 this afternoon, the river will remain very high as it flows through central Petersfield. We will continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the debris screens are cleared as necessary. Today, please keep away from the river as water will be deep and fast flowing. This Flood Alert will be removed by 16:00 on 31/10/21.

Following this afternoon’s heavy rain and further rain forecast this evening, the watercourse has risen to a level that may cause some out of bank flooding. The grill on Winchester Road is being cleared by Environment Agency staff as quickly as possible but continues to partially block with debris. The rain is expected to stop at around 22:00hrs this evening. Residents should be aware that some out of bank flood impacts may be seen around Merritt Meadow and Winchester Road adjacent to the watercourse.
