Flood Alert issued on 4 Jan 2024 17:39
Tilmore Brook
The water level in the Tilmore Brook through central Petersfield is high and rising. In the last 4 hours, 27mm of rain has been recorded in Petersfield. This is a large volume in a short period of time. Over the next 30 minutes, it is likely that the river will reach bankfull and that road flooding could be experienced in Petersfield. The river may also come out of bank at Merritts Meadow. The heaviest rain will clear the area by 18:00 this evening (04/01/2024), with some light showers forecast overnight. Once the heavy rainfall has passed in the next hour, water levels should begin to recover and begin to lower to normal. It is still possible a Flood Warning might be issued for onset of property flooding directly from the river. Our operational staff will work to keep the river clear of blockages, so the river can flow freely. We continue to monitor the forecast. River channels will contain deep and fast flowing water. Residents should remain prepared for flooding. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 on Friday 05/01/2024 or sooner if we think property flooding will occur.

Tilmore Brook
The water level in the Tilmore Brook is very high but currently stable. In the last 4 hours, 20mm of rain has been recorded in Petersfield, which is a large amount in a short period of time. Currently, at Winchester Road, there is a small blockage at the debris screen. The water level in the river is almost at the top of the bank. Environment Agency staff are currently in Petersfield (10:00 Sunday 31/10/21), and will be clearing the debris screen at Charles Street, before moving to Winchester Road. Rain has now cleared the area but showers, some heavy, are forecast throughout the rest of the day. At Winchester Road and at Charles Street, as soon as the blockages are removed, the water level will reduce rapidly. However, until at least 14:00 this afternoon, the river will remain very high as it flows through central Petersfield. We will continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the debris screens are cleared as necessary. Today, please keep away from the river as water will be deep and fast flowing. This Flood Alert will be removed by 16:00 on 31/10/21.
