River levels are forecast to rise to the Flood Warning level at the Ringwood Old Cottage river gauge from approximately 11.00 PM onwards tonight. This is as a result of the saturated ground conditions and todays heavy rainfall where over 25mm of rainfall has fallen in this area today. We expect flooding to affect areas between Ringwood and Christchurch. Flood water could be deep and fast flowing and therefore pose a risk to life. River levels can rise very quickly in response to heavy rainfall and we are closely monitoring the situation. The rainfall has now moved out of the area and only showers are expected tomorrow. However, further persistent rain is forecast overnight Friday into Saturday. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
