We expect flooding to affect low lying land, roads and footpaths along the River Stour between Wye and Canterbury today, Wednesday 13th March 2024. Levels have peaked in most locations as of Wednesday afternoon, but they may rise very slightly in Canterbury and in Fordwich overnight into Thursday 14th March. The weather forecast is largely dry for Wednesday and Thursday. We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are prepared to respond if required. The Flood Alert for the Lower River Stour remains in force following a day of heavy rainfall on Saturday 4 November and minor flooding to riverside paths, especially in Canterbury, is still expected overnight on Sunday 5 November. Water levels are now receding slowly around Wye following their peak earlier on Sunday 5 November. The Stour is still rising slightly at Chartham, Canterbury and Fordwich where the peaks will be observed on Sunday evening and overnight into Monday. An escalation to Flood Warning conditions is not expected. Any showers on Sunday evening should die out by midnight and drier weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday. This Flood Alert will be reviewed on Monday 6 November.

The river has peaked at Wye and the Canterbury area and is forecast to peak in Fordwich this evening. The flooding of roads and low lying land is expected to continue in the Stour valley through today and the flooding of riverside gardens in Canterbury and Fordwich will continue into tomorrow. We expect river levels to remain high until at least Monday evening, and maybe beyond. The forecast is for relatively dry weather until 2 February but a further wet spell is expected from then. The river peaked at Wye last night, and the peak will be experienced in the Canterbury area at lunchtime Sunday, and in Fordwich on Sunday early evening. The flooding of roads and low lying land is expected to continue in the Stour valley through today, and the flooding of riverside gardens in Canterbury, and Fordwich will continue into tomorrow. We expect river levels to remain high until at least Monday evening, and maybe beyond. The forecast is for relatively dry weather until, 2 February 2021 but a further wet spell is expected from then. River levels are continuing to rise in response to heavy rainfall this weekend. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads close to the River Great Stour, particularly between Wye and Canterbury, tomorrow morning from 2am, Monday 17 February. River levels are currently expected to continue to rise until Monday evening, 17 February. We are closely monitoring the situation and have deployed temporary defences in West Gate Gardens to help protect properties. Please avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded, and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. Our incident response staff are out checking on structures and clearing blockages where it is safe to do so. This message will be updated by 6am on Monday 17 February.

River levels have risen in response to heavy rainfall on Sunday morning, 16 February. Flooding of roads and farmland is expected to begin this morning between 8am and 12pm. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads close to the River Great Stour, particularly between Wye and Canterbury. River levels are currently expected to peak during Monday morning, 17 February, levels of flooding could increase until this time. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded, and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. Our incident response staff are out over the weekend, checking on structures and clearing blockages where it is safe to do so. This message will be updated by 5pm on Sunday 16 February.

River levels have fallen significantly throughout the catchment but some low lying land and roads in the area are likely to remain flooded in rural areas around Canterbury. Aldington and Hothfield flood storage areas are still impounding water from the recent heavy rainfall last week but river levels are falling steadily. The weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry overnight and throughout Christmas Day, 25 December 2019. Further rainfall is possible during Boxing Day, 26 December 2019 and overnight into Friday 27 December 2019.   We are continuing to monitor the situation closely as the catchments remain very responsive to further rainfall.    This Flood Alert will be updated or removed tomorrow morning, 25 December 2019.

River levels have been falling throughout the catchment but some local roads and low lying land are still likely to be affected by floodwater today in rural areas around Canterbury. The weather is expected to remain largely dry today but with a few isolated heavy showers possible. Christmas Day, 25 December 2019 is expected to remain dry. Further rainfall is possible on Boxing Day, 26 December 2019 but we are not currently anticipating any significant impacts. We continue to monitor the weather and river conditions closely over the next few days, as the catchments remain very responsive. This Flood Alert will be updated by 9pm today, 24 December 2019.

Although they remain high, river levels are falling through the catchment. River levels have peaked at Wye, Horton and Westgate gardens in Canterbury. We are storing water at Aldington and Hothfield Flood Storage Reservoirs and they are emptying slowly. Today is forecast to be dry but the occasional shower cannot be ruled out. Weak frontal systems are forecast on Monday night with blustery showers embedded, a second system is forecast for Thursday. The current expectation is that these are not likely to be as disruptive as last week's rainfall. We are monitoring conditions. Residents should remain vigilant as catchments are saturated. This message will be updated Tuesday morning 24/12/19, or as the situation changes.
