The Flood Alert for the River Medway between Leigh and Yalding remains in force following a day of heavy rainfall on Saturday 4 November. Water levels are generally not expected to exceed that observed last Thursday and Friday in most locations, however there is a chance the overall water level in Yalding may be slightly higher. Flood Warning conditions are not expected for the Little Venice site. The Ensfield Road near Leigh will remain closed overnight. The Medway will peak through Tonbridge in the early hours of Sunday morning, through East Peckham on Sunday morning and in Yalding early on Sunday afternoon. Any showers on Saturday evening should die out by midnight. Drier weather is expected on Sunday and Monday.

Further rainfall is due across Kent on Monday night into Tuesday morning and the Medway is expected to be peaking in all locations between Tonbridge and Yalding, including East Peckham, during daylight hours on Tuesday. The internal flooding of properties is not forecast at this point. We are closely monitoring the situation. This Flood Alert remains in force following heavy rain across Kent earlier in the week. River levels in the River Medway and its tributaries have fallen significantly this morning between Tonbridge and Yalding. However, flooding of low lying land and footpaths including Tonbridge playing fields is likely to continue as flood water slowly drains back into the rivers today, Saturday 19 November. This Flood Alert is likely to be removed later today. Further periods of heavy rainfall are forecast from tomorrow, Sunday 20 November and throughout next week. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Flooding of low lying land and farmland is expected to continue around Tonbridge and rural locations towards East Peckham and Yalding until this afternoon, Wednesday 19 February. The Leigh Flood Storage Area has been storing flood water to reduce flood risk in Hildenborough and Tonbridge since Sunday. We expect the storage area to be empty by 10am this morning, and flows on the River Medway will continue to fall significantly throughout today. We continue to monitor the situation closely. Our incident response staff are checking structures and clearing blockages. Please avoid low lying roads and footpaths near rivers which may be flooded. Further periods of rainfall are forecast for today, Wednesday 19 February, and tomorrow, Thursday 20 February. However, we don’t currently expect these to cause a significant river response. River levels have fallen significantly through the catchment but some roads and low lying land in the area remain flooded as they slowly drain back into the river systems. The Sports Pitches in Tonbridge remain underwater. The weather is expected to remain largely dry today but with a few isolated heavy showers possible. Christmas Day, 25 December 2019 is expected to remain dry. Further rainfall is possible on Boxing Day, 26 December 2019 but we are not currently anticipating any significant impacts. We continue to monitor the weather and river conditions closely over the next few days, as the catchments remain very responsive. This Flood Alert will be updated by 9pm today, 24 December 2019.
