Flood Alert issued on 18 Jun 2021 08:15
This is a pre-emptive flood alert for heavy rainfall which is forecast today. An organised band of persistent rain will move across the coast this morning and clear by lunchtime. A feature of todays forecast is the potential for very heavy showers embedded in the mornings rain and which may persist through the afternoon. These downpours could cause flooding to occur quickly. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Pent in Folkestone. Owing to uncertainty in the forecast it is difficult to pinpoint where might be at risk, this is because flooding could be caused by surface water or the Pent Stream.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are clearing trash screens at various locations in Folkestone and we are liaising with emergency services and our partners.
This message will be updated this afternoon 18/06/2021, or as the situation changes.
Flood Alert issued on 8 Nov 2019 11:17
River levels have risen possibly as a result of a blockage near the Foco Club and because of a heavy downpour. Consequently, flooding of property may be imminent. Further rainfall is forecast over the next hour. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are out on the ground checking and clearing any blockages and debris on the Pent Stream. Please avoid contact with flood water and remain safe. This river can respond extremely quickly. We are attending the site and monitoring conditions closely. This message will be updated in approximately 2 hours.
Flood Alert issued on 28 May 2017 18:32
Thunderstorms are expected this evening and overnight. The rainfall may be intense and very localised. We are issuing a flood alert based on the forecast rainfall.
There is significant uncertainty about how much rain will fall and exactly where, however rainfall totals could be as high as 60mm of rain in a 3 hour period. Rain is expected to fall on the Pent catchment in the Folkestone area between 9pm on Sunday 28 May and 2am on Monday 29 May.
There is a significant risk of surface water flooding, however, we do not expect any property flooding from rivers at this stage. If we receive all of the predicted rain, there is a chance that the river may come out of bank, leading to flooding of nearby roads and low-lying land.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update this flood alert as the situation develops.
The Flood Alert has been issued based on forecast rainfall.
