Marykirk experienced extensive flooding today, Friday, with levels on the North Esk reaching the highest on record. River levels on the North Esk are dropping on Friday evening. However, further rainfall is expected overnight Friday and Saturday. Another red weather warning for rain is in place by the Met Office. We expect the River Esk to rise again from Saturday morning. Current forecasts indicate that it may peak Saturday afternoon at lower levels than today, Friday. The ground is very saturated, and the river may respond more quickly. The railway line, cottages at Marykirk, the A937 and the waste water treatment works will remain at risk tomorrow.
