River levels have risen on the River Tees as a result of heavy rainfall throughout last night (27/08/2020). River levels are expected to remain high throughout the day today, 28/08/2020 in response to further rainfall forecast this morning. The flood gates are closed at Croft and the Phase 1 flood gates at Yarm will remain closed over the weekend. Water levels are also likely to be high on smaller watercourses around Teesside including the Lustrum Beck. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day today, 28/08/2020 and will issue any flood warnings that may be required. River levels are forecast to rise on the River Tees as a result of heavy rainfall through Thursday night and into Friday morning, 28/08/2020. We are likely to see river levels rise through the early hours of Friday and continue to rise further down the catchment throughout the day. Floodgates are already closed at Croft and Phase 1 floodgates are closed at Yarm. Water levels are also likely to be high on smaller watercourses around Teesside including the Lustrum Beck. We will continue to monitor the situation through the night and issue any flood warnings that may be required. River levels are forecast to rise late Saturday night (14/03/20) into Sunday morning (15/03/20) on the lower River Tees as a result of rainfall overnight. Consequently, flooding could occur to low lying land and footpaths from 06:00 onwards throughout the day tomorrow (15/03/2020). Flood gates are closed in Yarm and Croft-on-Tees. River levels are forecast to rise late Saturday night (14/03/20) into Sunday morning (15/03/20) on the lower River Tees as a result of rainfall overnight. Consequently, flooding could occur to low lying land and footpaths between 02:00 and 12:00 tomorrow morning (15/03/2020). Flood gates are currently being closed in Yarm and Croft-on-Tees. River levels in the Tees at Yarm have fallen overnight however another band of rain, with snow over high ground, is expected tonight (Sunday 23rd February) into Monday morning. Phase one and two floodgates at Yarm will remain closed thoughout Sunday. We are closely monitoring the forecasts and if river levels do not respond to this rainfall then phase one and two gates at Yarm will be opened during Monday. Take care near riverside roads and footpaths which may remain wet and muddy following the recent high river levels. River levels are expected to remain high during Saturday, following the overnight rainfall in the River Tees area. Levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river today (Saturday 22nd February). Phase one flood gates at Yarm were closed from 10:00 this morning and phase two flood gates were closed this afternoon. The current forecast is that Sunday will be relatively dry during the day and river levels will drop. However, another band of rain, with snow over high ground, is expected overnight Sunday into Monday morning and levels are forecast to rise again. As a result, phase one and phase two gates will remain closed until Tuesday morning. We are monitoring river levels closely and our operational teams are out on the ground checking and clearing any blockages from rivers. River levels on the Lower River Tees catchment have peaked and are receding at Croft and the Lustrum Beck. However, levels currently remain high on the Tees at the Low Moor and Yarm gauging stations therefore this alert will remain in force overnight. We are expecting the River Tees to peak at 8pm tonight (16/02/20) and slowly recede overnight. Further showers are expected throughout the night but we do not expect the rivers to respond significantly. There have been reports of minor surface water flooding along Yarm High Street, so please take care in this area. Croft and Neasham floodgates will stay closed until levels reduce. Yarm Phase 1 & 2 floodgates will also remain closed overnight. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. Rainfall is now easing throughout today, Sunday 16/02/2020 however we expect river levels in the lower catchment including Yarm to continue to rise throughout the day before peaking later this afternoon. Levels on the Lustrum Beck will remain high today but we don’t expect them to rise again significantly. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. River levels at the Croft-on-Tees and Low Moor river gauges have peaked as a result of Storm Ciara. Levels at Yarm remain high and are predicted to fall throughout the day. Flooding of properties/roads and farmland is possible. Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths, low lying land and roads. We are closely monitoring the situation. We have opened some flood gates in Yarm where it is possible to do so, and will open remaining gates and distribute an updated operational message when all gates are opened. Consequently River Tees levels will rise relatively rapidly through Saturday night, 08/02/20 into Sunday morning, 09/02/20. Flooding of properties/roads and farmland is possible. Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths, low lying land and roads. Further heavy rainfall is forecast through Saturday night and Sunday, rain will be particularly heavy over high ground in the Pennines and the Cheviots. We are closely monitoring the situation and issue any flood warnings as needed. Through the night we will close the flood gates at Croft and Yarm. If access is needed to remove anything please do so as soon as possible. River levels are rising on the tidal River Tees at Stockton river gauge as a result of rainfall on Monday night and high spring tides. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected on Tuesday afternoon and evening, 01/10/19. Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths and low lying land and roads around Yarm and Stockton. We will be closing all gates in Yarm. They will be closed in sequence working downstream. The last gates to be closed will be Sainsbury’s and bank car parks. Once closed the gates will remain secure until early morning. Drivers in affected car parks should remove cars immediately. In anticipation of prolonged and heavy rainfall today and tomorrow in the River Tees area we will be closing some of the flood gates in Yarm today (12th October) before 6pm. The flood gates we are closing will not restrict public access to the riverside. As river levels rise overnight we may need to close the remaining flood gates. These gates will then remain closed until river levels have fallen. River Tees
After prolonged rainfall overnight the level of the River Tees remains high. Isolated showers throughout the day are expected but are unlikely to have significant effects on river levels. The flood alert will remain in force until river levels drop. There may be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river at Yarm. The flood gates at Yarm are currently closed and will remain closed until the river level has dropped. We do not currently expect any issues on the Lustrum Beck in Stockton. River Tees
Over the last 12 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Tees area. This means that the River Tees is expected to rise steadily through this evening and overnight tonight (Wednesday 22nd November). Levels currently suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river at Yarm. We do not currently expect any issues on the Lustrum Beck in Stockton. We are closely monitoring river levels and forecasts and have staff out clearing blockages and checking defences. We are considering closing the flood gates at Yarm overnight – as a precaution please ensure vehicles are moved out of car parks that are affected in advance of this. If the gates are closed then they will remain closed all night until further notice. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.
