This is an update to the current flood alert which was issued in response to the forecast for thunderstorms and potentially heavy downpours across Teesside this evening (Thursday 6th July). The forecasted thunderstorms have moved out of this area, and the risk of flooding is reduced. However due to the nature of these storms, there is a low risk that storms could return to the area, so this flood alert remains in force overnight. Where rain does fall however, we could expect to see localised surface water flooding and flooding from smaller faster responding rivers in urban areas. Our teams are still in the area inspecting watercourses and removing blockages. We continue to monitor the situation closely. For a more detailed weather forecast for your area please see the Met Office www.metoffice.gov.uk. This message will be updated by 10am Friday 7th July or earlier if the situation changes.
