Some of the highest tides of the year are expected on the North Sea Coast from Staithes to Whitby on Wednesday 12th September in the morning and may lead to localised flooding due to over topping. The current forecast shows that the most significant water levels are likely to occur between 04:45 and 06:00 tomorrow morning. These particular high tides are because of the naturally occurring astronomical tide cycle. Conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide. We will monitor the situation and will update this information and issue warning as required. Please stay aware of your surroundings and do not put yourself at risk. Be prepared to act on your flood plan.

This flood alert is in force for the evening tide on Monday 30th April 2018 due to overtopping waves driven by a strong north-easterly wind at Sandsend between 5:30pm and 7:00pm tonight. This flood alert remains in force as strong easterly winds and spring high tides continue to bring a risk of wave overtopping and spray along the North Sea coast. This is being forecast during the high tide on Sunday 18th March. The particular area of concern is Sandsend between 16:45 and 19:15. Exposed and low lying sections of the coastline may also be at risk and members of the public are advised to take care in these areas due to the risk of increased wave heights, windblown spray and debris during high water. Conditions are forecast to improve on Monday with wind speeds easing and with a more northerly direction. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this alert with the latest forecast information.

This flood alert is in force as strong to gale force onshore winds will bring the risk of wave overtopping and spray along the North Sea coast during the weekend. The particular area at risk is Sandsend between 16:15 and 18:45 on Saturday 17th March, and between 04:15 and 07:00 on Sunday 18th March. Exposed and low lying areas along the coastline may also be at risk and members of the public are advised to use caution due to the risk of increased wave heights, windblown spray and debris during high water. Further alerts may be required as high winds and wave conditions with spring tides will continue through the weekend. Strong to gale force onshore winds will bring the risk of wave overtopping and windblown spray along the North Sea coast. The particular area at risk is at Sandsend between 16:00 and 18:00 on Friday, and between 04:30 and 06:15 on Saturday. Members of the public are advised to use caution along the coastline due to the risk of increased wave heights, windblown spray and debris during high water. Further alerts may be required over the weekend period due to unsettled weather and spring tides. The Flood Alert remains in place due to overtopping and wave-blown spray in and around Sandsend as a result of the strong easterly winds. Overtopping and windblown spray are expected between 1:30pm and 7:45pm on Friday 2nd March, creating similar conditions there as experienced on the last few tides. Roads and footpaths near to the coast continue to be effected by windblown spray and debris as a result of wave action, and members of the public are advised to use considerable caution in these areas. The Flood Alert remains in place due to overtopping and wave-blown spray in and around Sandsend as a result of the strong easterly winds. Overtopping and windblown spray can be expected between 2:30pm and 7pm on Thursday 1st March and then again between 1:30am and 7.30am on Friday 2nd March. Strong easterly winds may increase windblown spray particularly around peak tides. Roads and footpaths near to the coast may be affected by windblown spray and debris as a result of wave action, and members of the public are advised to use considerable caution in these areas.

The Flood Alert remains in place due to overtopping and wave-blown spray in and around Sandsend for the next two days as a result of the strong easterly winds. Overtopping and windblown spray can be expected on Wednesday 28th February between 3pm and 6:30pm. On Thursday 1st March overtopping and windblown spray can be expected between 4am and 7am, and between 3:30pm and 6:30pm. It is possible that this Alert will also remain in place for the tides on Friday 2nd March, which we will provide updates for in due course.

Easterly winds combined with large waves will create wind-blown spray affecting the area around Sandsend tomorrow morning between 0330 and 0500 and tomorrow afternoon between 1530 and 1730. This weather system is expected to remain until the weekend, however we are continually monitoring the situation and will update this message accordingly.

The combination of high tides, small surge and wave action is expected to generate some overtopping of waves and windblown spray at Sandsend and Whitby around New Quay Road. The particular time of concern at Sandsend is between 15:15 and 18:15. The particular time of concern at Whitby is between 15:45 and 16:45. Other low lying areas close to the coast may be at risk during these periods. As we are in a period of higher tides with unsettled weather it is likely that this alert will remain in force over the next few days, and we will continue to monitor the situation and update this message with new forecast information when this becomes available.

The combination of high tides, small surge and wave action is expected to generate some overtopping of waves and windblown spray at Sandsend and Whitby around New Quay Road. The particular times of concern at Sandsend are between 04:15 and 05:30 on Thursday 1st February and then again on the afternoon tide between 15:30 and 18:15. The particular times of concern at Whitby are between 04:00 and 05:00 on Thursday 1st February and then again in the afternoon between 15:45 and 16:45. Other low lying areas close to the coast may be at risk during these periods. As we are in a period of higher tides with unsettled weather it is likely that this alert will remain in force over the next few days, and we will continue to monitor the situation and update this message with new forecast information when this becomes available.

Tidal levels will decrease later in the week, but the weather will remain unsettled into the weekend and so alerts may remain in force for the next few days. This flood alert is in force for the evening high tide on Friday 8th December. Overtopping waves and spray can be expected around Sandsend between 18:30 and 20:45. The area around Whitby may also be affected by high water levels and accompanying waves between 18:45 and 20:15. The alert is due to the water level expected at the time of high tide for the tide on Thursday 7th December at 19:00 and Friday 8th December at 07:15 and 19:30. Overtopping waves can be expected in the hours leading up to and after high tides, affecting Sandsend and Whitby for each of these tides. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will update this message if the situation changes.

This alert is issued for the North Sea coast at Sandsend, during the high tide on Saturday morning, 4 November, between 02:30 and 04:30. Wind and wave action may lead to overtopping in the area. These particularly high tides are because of the naturally occurring astronomical tide cycle. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this information and issue warnings as required.

This flood alert is in force for the afternoon high tide on Thursday 5th October and the following morning high tide on Friday 6th. Strong north westerly winds at high water could lead to increased spray and wave action along the North Sea Coast. The particular area at risk from wave overtopping and windblown spray is the Whitby Harbour area, including New Quay Road, between 4:30pm and 5pm on Thursday, and again on Friday morning between 04:00am and 05:30am. In addition, Sandsend is also at risk during the high tide on Friday between 04:00am and 06:15am. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this alert with the latest forecast information.
