The flood alert for North Sea coast from Staithes to Whitby remains in force due to forecast overtopping of sea defences by waves and spray at Sandsend, as a result of strong onshore winds. Overtopping at Sandsend is forecast between 05:00am and 12:00noon on Sunday, 29/03/2020. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous and stay aware in case further warnings are issued. We are currently expecting to remove this alert at midday however, as no significant impacts are forecast for this evening's tide.

Large waves and spray are also possible for high tide later today 28/03/20 from around 17:00 and Sunday morning 29/03/20 from around 04:45 although we are not expecting significant volumes of overtopping. Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads near the North Sea Coast, in Scarborough. Overtopping waves and spray are forecast for Marine Royal Albert Drive, Foreshore Road, Sandside and the Spa Complex. Minor wave overtopping and spray is also forecast for Monday morning from 7 am till 10 am in these areas, but this is not currently expected to cause any issues. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will update this message on Monday morning 28/01/2019 or as the situation changes.

Scarborough South Bay and exposed low lying sections of the coastline may also be at risk.
