Further rainfall is forecast in the early hours of Saturday 13/06/20, although significant impacts are not currently expected. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near local watercourses and do not walk or drive through fast moving water. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast. River levels in the catchment are responding and are expected to remain high throughout today due to on-going rainfall, Friday 12/6/2020. This flood alert has been issued due to forecast persistent heavy rain and showers, especially across eastern areas of higher ground on the North York Moors. River levels are forecast to rise and most catchments are expected to see some response overnight into Friday morning. Flood Warnings may be required in certain locations on Friday morning where the highest rainfall totals accumulate. Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads adjacent to watercourses. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and do not walk or drive through fast moving water. The level of the Esk at Briggswath is expected to reach 1.3m at about 13:00 hours on Sunday and continue to rise, peaking at 1.64m at 15:45 hours. Levels are forecast to rise slowly on Sunday night and to begin falling slowly on Monday morning 21/10/2019. We will continue to monitor the situation. The area most at risk is around Lealholm where levels will continue to rise until 7pm this evening 1/10/19. We do not expect to be issuing flood warnings at this time, however we will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message accordingly. The tidal reaches of the River Esk, between Ruswarp and Whitby are also subject to high spring tides this evening between 6pm and 8pm on 1/10/19. The tidal reaches of the River Esk, between Ruswarp and Whitby are also subject to high spring tides. On Tuesday 1st October these are at 06:14 for the morning tide and 18:42 for the evening tide. The tidal reaches of the River Esk, between Ruswarp and Whitby are also subject to high spring tides. On Tuesday 1st October these are at 06:14 for the morning tide and 18:42 for the evening tide. The river level at Briggswath peaked at just over 2 m at 6:30am this morning Thursday 13/06/19. The river level at Lealholm has peaked at 1.6m this afternoon, Thursday 13/06/19. Whilst river levels remain high at Lealholme and Brigswath, levels are now beginning to fall throughout the catchment. Further showery rain is forecast throughout Thursday 13/06/19 and we will continue to monitor the impact of this rainfall and update this information accordingly. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. The river level at Lealholm is still rising and is expected to peak at around 9am this morning at a similar level to yesterday. The flood warning for the River Esk at Briggswath to Ruswarp remains in place. Further rainfall is forecast throughout Thursday 13/06/19 and we will continue to monitor the situation. Areas at risk are Church Street between Castleton and Danby and the Moors National Park Centre between Lodge Lane and Lawns Road. Also at risk are Lealholm, Egton Bridge and Briggswath. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the river levels and a patrol is in the area. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. The River Esk at Briggswath is currently expected to peak at 1.95m at midday today (12/06/19). Levels are expected to briefly fall this afternoon. However, further rainfall is forecast during Wednesday afternoon which could lead to river levels rising again later this evening and into Thursday (13/06/19). River levels have risen as a result of persistent rainfall. Consequently, flooding is possible along the River Esk from 08:30 Wednesday morning (12/06/19). Areas most at risk are Church Street between Castleton and Danby and the Moors National Park Centre between Lodge Lane and Lawns Road. Also at risk are Lealholm, Egton Bridge and Briggswath. The expected peak level at Briggswath is 1.6m at around 11:00 today before falling through the early afternoon. However, further rainfall is forecast during Wednesday afternoon which could lead to river levels rising again later this evening and into Thursday (13/06/19). We do not expect to issue flood warnings based on the current forecast. It is now forecast to drop below levels of concern on Friday evening. However, low lying land may still be affected by standing water. This flood alert has been issued in response to heavy rainfall and snowmelt over high ground increasing river levels. The particular area of concern is Briggswath, but levels upstream at Castleton and Lealholm have also shown a low level response this afternoon. The current level at Briggswath is 1.25m and this is expected to peak overnight around 1.7m to 1.8m. The peak tide at Whitby is at 2am on Saturday morning. No significant rainfall is expected on Saturday, however snowmelt may continue to keep river levels elevated over the weekend.
