A FLOOD WARNING update has been issued for Longhope and Hoy. Spring high tides, storm surge and strong westerly winds have combined to bring a risk of coastal flooding over several days this week. There is a risk that low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as on other low lying roads. Flooding is possible around the high tide times on Wednesday night around 10.15 PM and on Thursday morning around 10.45 AM. Strong westerly winds are expected to continue then move round to the north later on Thursday. There will be a possibility of flooding during any of the high tides from now until Friday. Although the high water levels at each high tide might be fairly similar, with variable wind and wave conditions, flooding can be expected around any of the high tides. Warnings will be updated for future tidal cycles until the risk of flooding has passed. A FLOOD WARNING update has been issued for Longhope and Hoy. Spring high tides, storm surge and strong westerly winds have combined to bring a risk of coastal flooding over several days this week. There is a risk that low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as on other low lying roads. Flooding is possible around the high tide times on Wednesday morning around 10.00 AM and on Wednesday night around 10.30 PM. Strong westerly winds are expected to continue throughout the next few days. There will be a possibility of flooding during any of the high tides from now until Friday. Although the high water levels at each high tide might be fairly similar, with variable wind and wave conditions, flooding can be expected around any of the high tides. Warnings will be updated for future tidal cycles until the risk of flooding has passed. A combination of strong westerly to south-westerly winds and storm surge means low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as at other low lying roads including at North Ness, the Wyng and at Kirk Hope. The highest risk will be a few hours either side of the high tide on Saturday morning around 09:00hrs GMT. Tide levels in Longhope are forecast to be at the flood warning threshold, this is lower than the levels experienced earlier this month on the 10th February 2020. An updated FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Longhope and Hoy. A combination of high tide, strong winds and storm surge means that there is a risk that low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Conditions could become hazardous due to waves at the Ayre, as well as at other low lying roads. Flooding is expected around the times of the high tides on Monday at 22:30 GMT and on Tuesday at 10:30 GMT. The risk is expected to be higher around Tuesday mornings high tide with higher water levels and larger waves forecast, but with variable wind and wave conditions, flooding can be expected around any of the high tide times mentioned. Strong winds are expected to continue during Monday evening and into Tuesday, changing to a westerly direction. A combination of high tide, strong winds and storm surge means that there is a risk that low lying roads and properties in Hoy and Longhope are at risk of flooding. Flooding is expected around the times of the high tides on Sunday at 21:00 GMT and Monday at 10:00 and 22:00 GMT. Strong winds are expected to continue during Sunday and into Monday changing to a westerly direction. Water levels will be highest on Monday mornings high tide, but with variable wind and wave conditions, flooding can be expected around any of the high tide times mentioned. A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Longhope and Hoy. High spring tides accompanied by a small surge mean that flooding from the sea is expected on Friday 22nd March. Low lying roads may be affected by flooding especially at Myre, Kirk Hope, and the Ouse. The highest risk will be a few hours either side of high tide on Friday morning. High tide is around 10 am and 10 pm on Friday. Strong westerly winds are increasing throughout the day so the evening tide could be accompanied by bigger waves.
