A FLOOD WARNING update has been issued for Westray. Spring high tides, storm surge and strong westerly winds have combined to bring a risk of coastal flooding over several days this week. There is a risk of coastal flooding in Pierowall and Broughton. Any low lying coastal roads and properties across the island exposed to westerly winds can expect hazardous conditions from waves and spray. Flooding is possible around the high tide times on Wednesday morning around 10.30 AM and again on Thursday morning around 11.00 AM. The overnight high tide on Wednesday night is slightly lower than the tides either side and so the highest risk of flooding is on the morning tides. Although the Wednesday and Thursday morning tides are of similar size, with variable wind and wave conditions, the risk of flooding might not be the same at these two tide cycles and impacts could be expected at either. Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. This FLOOD WARNING UPDATE is now in force until further notice. If you havent already signed up to receive free flood messages, please call Floodline or register online at sepa.org.uk/floodingsignup.
