A FLOOD WARNING update has been issued for Westray. Spring high tides, storm surge and strong westerly winds have combined to bring a risk of coastal flooding over several days this week. There is a risk of coastal flooding in Pierowall and Broughton. Any low lying coastal roads and properties across the island exposed to westerly winds can expect hazardous conditions from waves and spray. Flooding is possible around the high tide times on Wednesday morning around 10.30 AM and again on Thursday morning around 11.00 AM. The overnight high tide on Wednesday night is slightly lower than the tides either side and so the highest risk of flooding is on the morning tides. Although the Wednesday and Thursday morning tides are of similar size, with variable wind and wave conditions, the risk of flooding might not be the same at these two tide cycles and impacts could be expected at either. There is a risk of coastal flooding in Pierowall and Broughton. Flooding is possible around the high tide times on Tuesday night around 10.00 pm and on Wednesday morning around 10.15 am. Strong westerly winds are expected to continue throughout the next few days. There will be a possibility of flooding during any of the high tides from now until lunchtime on Thursday.
