The Washford River remains high following the weekend's heavy rain. The river is forecast to remain stable at its current level during Monday, then start to drop overnight and on Tuesday. Consequently flooding is expected on Monday 25/11/2024.
Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Washford River, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around properties in Roadwater and roads in Kingsbridge.
Monday is forecast to be predominantly dry with occasional showers. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels closely, and staff have been out checking rivers for blockages and clearing weed screens.
Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, and do not put yourself or others in unnecessary danger.

Flooding is expected when river levels are at their highest from 10:00 PM on 24/11/2024.

Rainfall has now generally moved out of the area although there is still the possibility of the occasional heavy shower during the remainder of Sunday and into Monday.

A band of heavy and persistent rain is forecast on Thursday afternoon and evening, clearing overnight. The forecast for Friday is mostly dry with possible isolated light showers. The weekend is forecast to be generally dry.

The actual rainfall over last night was less than forecast and the river rise in the Washford River was lower than predicted and peaked at 09:00 this morning. The band of rainfall will pass out of the area Thursday morning, but showers are still possible. This Flood Warning will remain in force whilst we monitor the current rainfall and river level but will look to remove later today if the situation continues to improve. A further band of rainfall is currently forecast to arrive Friday evening and into Saturday.
The potential for flooding of low-lying land near the Washford River in Roadwater and Kingsbridge continues but the risk of property flooding has reduced.

The river levels on the Washford River at Beggearn Huish peaked above this flood warning threshold around 02:00 early Saturday morning before falling. However, because of the heavy showers during Saturday, the river levels have remained high. Further showers are forecast tonight and we expect the flood warning threshold to be exceeded at around 04:00 Sunday morning. We expect the peak water level to be similar or less than the peak on Saturday morning and only the lowest most vulnerable riverside properties are at risk.
