There is a risk of property flooding at Bye Mills, Church Street at Pensford, Woollard, Compton Dando and Chewton Place. At Keynsham there is a risk of flooding to properties at the bottom of Dapps Hill, particularly at Alice Mews. Flooding is possible overnight on Monday 04/12/2023.

River levels have risen at the Chew Magna Outlet river gauge as a result of heavy and persistent rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible imminently. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. There is a risk that the rivers could become bankfull later this evening 14/01/2020 when flooding impacts may begin to affect riverside properties. Please remain aware of local water levels, updated forecasts and weather conditions. Our incident team are closely monitoring the situation.

Further light rainfall is forecast overnight on Thursday 19th and into Friday 20th of December. River levels are responsive and can rise very quickly in response to any heavy rainfall. River levels on the Winford Brook and River Chew have risen in response to rainfall on Friday 22/11/2019. Further rain, with isolated heavy downpours are forecast from 18:00 today until 03:00 on Saturday 23/11/2019. There is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Flooding of low lying land and roads could restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. Based on current rainfall forecasts at the time of issue of this message we have confidence that the rivers will remain in channel and that property flooding is not expected. With the current rain forecast over the next few days so this flood alert will remain in force. Our incident response staff are checking and clearing weed screens and other structures from any debris. Please stay away from fast moving water and be aware in case further warnings are issued. Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point.
Further light rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to begin falling later this afternoon into early evening.

River levels rose as a result of last night’s heavy rainfall. The ground is now very wet and rivers are continuing to rise quickly. Catchments are already wet from recent wet weather and are likely to react quickly to further rainfall. Widespread totals of around 10 to 15 mm of rain are expected on the 02 November 2019. The forecast is unclear on the precise location of these areas in Somerset.
With the anticipated intense rainfall throughout 02 November 2019 we expect to see an increase in river levels above the Flood Alert criteria on the Winford Brook on Saturday afternoon. Currently flood warnings are not expected to be issued but we are monitoring river levels if this position were to change. This message will be updated in 8 hours, or as the situation changes.

The River Chew Flood Alert is in force based on the forecast rainfall expected tonight on the 01 November 2019 and during the early hours of Saturday, the 02 November 2019.
The catchment is currently classified as wet at present and we have experienced 3 to 5 mm of rain today. With the anticipated intense rainfall tonight this is expected to increase river levels across the River Chew catchment, notably the Winford Brook on Saturday morning between 7 am and 8 am leading into the early hours of the afternoon. Flood warnings are currently not expected to be issued.
Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow.

The flood warning has been removed as the Winford Brook river level is falling and based on the current best available weather forecast the river level is not forecast to rise to flood warning level for the next 24 to 36 hours. However the flood alert will remain in place as there is further rainfall forecast for later on Monday 14/10/2019 and into Tuesday and rivers in the area may start to rise again. There is some uncertainty on the precise tracking and amount of predicted heavy rain but the Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and river levels and will keep the Chew Valley Flood Forum lead up to date as the situation changes. Some of this rain may be heavy in places and it is forecast to clear northwards over Monday night. There is some uncertainty in the exact track of the intense bursts. We expect river levels to rise again during Monday afternoon and evening on 14/10/2019 so this flood alert has been updated and remains in force. In addition, further potentially heavy rain is currently forecast for Wednesday 16/10/2019. There has been an intense period of rainfall overnight on Friday 11/10/2019. Rivers responded rapidly and the Winford Brook at Chew Magna has risen quite sharply and is now dropping back to below flood warning levels, however further rain is forecast later this evening (12/10/19) between 21:30 and 02:30, which maybe locally heavy there is currently some uncertainty regarding exact location of the intensive bursts . Once the localised heavy thunderstorms have passed lighter showery conditions will persist tonight and into tomorrow Monday 12/08/2019.
