River levels have risen at the Chew Magna river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall on 27/08/20 but are now falling. Further heavy showers are possible overnight from 23:00 BST and into the morning. Although there is some uncertainty as to the intensity and locations of the showers, it is possible the levels will rise again in response. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. At the time of issuing this flood alert we are not expecting to reach flood warning level but if that changes overnight we will issue the warning. Flood water could pose a risk to life. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and consider installing property flood resilience equipment if you have it. Despite this, river levels still remain higher than normal. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Further light rainfall is forecast overnight on Thursday 19th and into Friday 20th of December. River levels are responsive and can rise very quickly in response to any heavy rainfall. Rain is forecast from about midnight on Saturday for about 3 hours. Rivers are likely to rise in response during the night. The Winford Brook at Chew Magna is forecast to reach Flood Alert level at about 1:00 am and peak at about 3:00 am. The Chew Stoke Stream in Chew Stoke is forecast to peak at about 3:00 am. Flooding of low lying land and roads is possible including The Batch in Chew Magna and the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims way in Chew Stoke. River levels on the Winford Brook and River Chew have risen in response to rainfall on Friday 22/11/2019. Further rain, with isolated heavy downpours are forecast from 18:00 today until 03:00 on Saturday 23/11/2019. There is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Flooding of low lying land and roads could restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. Based on current rainfall forecasts at the time of issue of this message we have confidence that the rivers will remain in channel and that property flooding is not expected. With the current rain forecast over the next few days so this flood alert will remain in force. Our incident response staff are checking and clearing weed screens and other structures from any debris. Please stay away from fast moving water and be aware in case further warnings are issued. We will update this message Saturday morning on 23/11/2019.

River levels have risen at the Chew Magna Outlet river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible for this afternoon through to this evening, 14/11/19. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point. Further light rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to begin falling later this afternoon into early evening. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and clearing weed screens. The River Chew Alert remains active. The Winford Brook is below the Alert criteria, however due to the risk of further heavy showers tonight it will remain in place throughout Monday the 04/11/2019. Approximately 5 to 8 mm of rain fell yesterday on an already very wet catchment. If today’s forecast of rain does fall the Winford Brook is expected to rise again and its possible this could result in Flood Warnings being issued. There is some uncertainty on the precise tracking and amount of predicted heavy rain. The Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and the river levels. River levels on the Chew Stoke Stream at Chew Stoke and Winford Brook at Chew Magna are forecast to rise tonight as a result of today’s persistent rainfall where 10-14 mm has fallen over the last 24 hours. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. Based on current rainfall forecasts there is a risk that rivers could become bank full this evening, 03/11/19 and may begin to affect riverside properties. Approximately 3 to 5 mm of rain is forecast tomorrow on Monday the 04/11/19.

River levels rose as a result of last night’s heavy rainfall. The ground is now very wet and rivers are continuing to rise quickly. Catchments are already wet from recent wet weather and are likely to react quickly to further rainfall. Widespread totals of around 10 to 15 mm of rain are expected on the 02 November 2019. The forecast is unclear on the precise location of these areas in Somerset. With the anticipated intense rainfall throughout 02 November 2019 we expect to see an increase in river levels above the Flood Alert criteria on the Winford Brook on Saturday afternoon. Currently flood warnings are not expected to be issued but we are monitoring river levels if this position were to change. This message will be updated in 8 hours, or as the situation changes.

The River Chew Flood Alert is in force based on the forecast rainfall expected tonight on the 01 November 2019 and during the early hours of Saturday, the 02 November 2019. The catchment is currently classified as wet at present and we have experienced 3 to 5 mm of rain today. With the anticipated intense rainfall tonight this is expected to increase river levels across the River Chew catchment, notably the Winford Brook on Saturday morning between 7 am and 8 am leading into the early hours of the afternoon. Flood warnings are currently not expected to be issued. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow.

Further light showers are expected throughout today and the River Chew and Winford Brook is forecast to rise in response. The flood alert remains in place as it is expected to reach criteria late tonight or into the early hours of the 1st November 2019. There is some uncertainty on the precise tracking and amount of rainfall but the Environment Agency will continue to monitor the weather and river situation. Flooding is possible for low lying ground near rivers including the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. No Flood Warnings are currently expected in this Flood Alert area. We will provide a further update on the 1st November or before if the situation changes.

This alert has been issued because the Winford Brook in Chew Magna is due to reach Flood Alert level at about 01:30 on Thursday morning. It is also forecast to peak just above the Flood Alert level. Flooding is possible for low lying ground near rivers including the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. No Flood Warnings are currently expected in this Flood Alert area. We are closely monitoring river levels and will update messages if the situation changes.

River levels remain high though are currently dropping however the flood alert will remain in place as there is further rain forecast moving across from the west this evening 15/10/19 into early Wednesday morning 16/10/19 and so rivers in the area may start to rise again This rain will be heaviest over south-west-facing upslopes, with only small rainfall totals expected elsewhere The Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and river levels and we will keep this flood alert up to date as the weather situation changes.

The flood warning has been removed as the Winford Brook river level is falling and based on the current best available weather forecast the river level is not forecast to rise to flood warning level for the next 24 to 36 hours. However the flood alert will remain in place as there is further rainfall forecast for later on Monday 14/10/2019 and into Tuesday and rivers in the area may start to rise again. There is some uncertainty on the precise tracking and amount of predicted heavy rain but the Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and river levels and will keep the Chew Valley Flood Forum lead up to date as the situation changes. Please beware that the flood warning may need to be reissued if the heavy rain causes the river level to rise through the expected flood warning trigger level. Less rain is forecast overnight on Sunday 13/10/2019 but a further frontal band of rain may feed north across the region during Monday afternoon 14/10/19, from about 13:00 hours onwards. Some of this rain may be heavy in places and it is forecast to clear northwards over Monday night. There is some uncertainty in the exact track of the intense bursts. We expect river levels to rise again during Monday afternoon and evening on 14/10/2019 so this flood alert has been updated and remains in force. In addition, further potentially heavy rain is currently forecast for Wednesday 16/10/2019. In the meantime we will closely monitor the situation and maintain contact with the Chew Valley Flood Forum. There may be some periods of locally heavy rain but there is uncertainty on the exact locations of these intense bursts. We expect river levels to rise again during Sunday 13/10/2019. There is a further significant band of rain due later on Monday 14/10/2019 and through Tuesday. We will have further information on the weather forecast for the Chew Valley area on Sunday morning. There has been an intense period of rainfall overnight on Friday 11/10/2019. Rivers responded rapidly and the Winford Brook at Chew Magna has risen quite sharply and is now dropping back to below flood warning levels, however further rain is forecast later this evening (12/10/19) between 21:30 and 02:30, which maybe locally heavy there is currently some uncertainty regarding exact location of the intensive bursts . So we expect river levels to rise again into Sunday.13/10/19. We are monitoring the situation and will provide update later today or earlier if conditions change.

Further persistent heavy rainfall is forecast between 13:30 and 18:00 on Friday 11/10/2019. Consequently flooding is forecast to affect the road at The Batch and could affect adjacent low lying properties from around mid afternoon today. Following this afternoon's heavy rainfalll lighter rain will continue through until tomorrow morning Saturday 12/10/2019 with an associated fall in the river levels. A period of persistent and at times heavy burst of rain has fallen across the catchment overnight on Friday 11/10/2019. This has resulted in rivers rising quite rapidly. With further rain expected throughout Friday and into Saturday the risk of flooding has increased. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. Based on current rainfall forecasts available at the time of issue of this message there is a risk that the rivers could become bankfull around 06:00 on 11/10/2019 when flooding impacts may begin to affect riverside properties. Please remain aware of local water levels, updated forecasts and weather conditions. We will be checking rivers are clear from obstruction and providing further regular updates as we monitor the weather.

We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the fords on Mill Lane and Pilgrims Way in Chew Stoke and The Batch and Dumpers Lane in Chew Magna. Flooding of low lying land and roads could restrict local access. Based on current rainfall forecasts, we expect the rivers to remain in channel. Please remain aware of local water levels and weather conditions. Flooding of properties is not forecast at this point. Some light rain showers are expected over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to begin falling at around midnight on 09/10/19. Our incident response staff are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to restrict local access and fords may become dangerous. Based on current rainfall forecasts there is a risk that rivers could become bank full between 22:00 this evening, 11/08/19 and 03:00 tomorrow morning when flooding impacts may begin to affect riverside properties. Once the localised heavy thunderstorms have passed lighter showery conditions will persist tonight and into tomorrow Monday 12/08/2019. In conjunction with the Met Office we are closely monitoring the forecast thunderstorm activity.

Steady rainfall has been falling on the catchment throughout Friday the 8th with the heaviest falling around lunchtime. Friday evening will be a mix of blustery showers and clear spells. River levels in the catchment are rising but the situation should improve going into tomorrow with reduced rainfall. Saturday the 9th will also be a mix of showers and clear spells. River levels on the Chew Stoke Stream at Chew Stoke, Winford Brook at Chew Magna and River Chew at Compton Dando are all rising in response to today’s rainfall. The river level at Winford Brook is already starting to slow down in its rate of rise. We are clearing watercourses and operating defences where required and will update this message on Saturday morning unless the situation notably changes or if the alert needs to be removed this evening.

This flood alert will remain out for the remainder of today and probably until Tuesday afternoon on 05/02/2019. We are not expecting the flooding of any properties now the rivers are falling but some low lying roads and land may be affected. The heavy overnight rainfall has now melted most of the snow. Whilst the rainfall has generally moved out of the area, this alert will remain out this morning as river levels gradually fall. The is some uncertainty about the forecast totals due to the impact of snow melt which may add to the potential maximum.. River levels on the Chew Stoke Stream at Chew Stoke, Winford Brook at Chew Magna and River Chew at Compton Dando are stable, but are expected to rise later this evening in response to the forecast rainfall and impacts of snow melt. Little further rain is expected on Monday and river levels will then drop.

Following today’s showers, a band of moderate frontal rain is forecast to affect this area between 23:00 on Thursday 20/12/2018 and 04:00 on Friday 21/12/2018. Further showery rainfall is expected to follow on Friday. River levels on the Chew Stoke Stream at Chew Stoke, Winford Brook at Chew Magna and River Chew at Compton Dando are forecast to rise overnight in response to the forecast rainfall. The Flood Alert threshold is forecast to be met at Chew Magna in the early hours of Friday morning with the peak following within a few hours. Flooding of low lying land and roads is possible but property flooding is not currently expected. Our operational teams have been out clearing debris from screens where necessary. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

Isolated thundery rainfall is forecast this afternoon and into the evening of the 31st May 2018, however the rainfall amount and exact location is uncertain. Localised thunderstorms may cause some surface water flooding where water is not able to drain away. This unsettled weather is expected to continue into Friday. Whilst river levels within the Chew catchment are stable and have not met criteria we are issuing the Flood Alert to raise awareness. This is largely due to the nature of the rainfall and that the Chew catchment can react quickly to intense rainfall. We are constantly monitoring river levels. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings, flood waters may be deep and fast flowing. Please refer to river levels on the internet for current river levels. The majority of Sunday will be dry until later on in the afternoon. A band of heavy and persistent rain will move across the area overnight Sunday and into Monday. The most intense rainfall will be between 23:00 and 09:00. River levels are generally stable however, as the rain passes through, this will lead to a rise in all river levels in the area therefore we are issuing all the Flood Alerts for the Bristol Avon area. There is an outside possibility of a couple of flood warnings being issued overnight but due to the uncertainty, we will not know the exact location of these until the rain passes through. We will be carrying out routine checks around the Bristol Avon area to ensure that the additional water will be able to travel through the system as expected. This message will be updated again Monday morning once the latest weather forecasts and models have been run and assessed.

River levels on the Winford Brook at Chew Magna and River Chew at Compton Dando are rising. With the forecast rain and rainfall received we are keeping a close eye on the river levels and will update accordingly.

The River Chew Flood Alert is in force based on the forecast rainfall expected for this afternoon and evening (14th March 2018). The Met Office is forecasting between 10-20 mm today, which will result in an increase in river levels across the River Chew catchment, notably the Winford Brook this evening and Thursday morning (15th March 2018). Flood warnings are not expected to be issued. River levels on the Chew Stoke Stream at Chew Stoke, Winford Brook at Chew Magna and River Chew at Compton Dando are forecast to peak between 2 am and 6 am on Thursday the 15 March 2018. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow.

The Winford Brook in Chew Magna is currently forecast to peak just below Flood Warning level, however, this could change depending on the location of the heaviest rain.
