However, Storm Darragh will continue to bring very strong winds and some showers during Saturday, 07/12/2024. There is a continued possibility of minor flooding of low lying land and roads near the Washford River during Saturday. Flooding may also affect locations near the Horner Water, River Aller, Hawkcombe Stream, Monksilver Stream and Doniford Stream.

Following the overnight rainfall, the Washford River in Beggearn Huish remains high but did not respond as forecast, and currently remains below the flood alert criteria. However, a further band of rain is forecast this afternoon, Thursday, 05/12/2024, from around 2:00PM, and more rain during Friday afternoon and overnight into Saturday. This flood alert remains in force as the flooding of low lying land and roads near the Washford River is possibly during Thursday afternoon. Flooding may also affect locations near the Horner Water, River Aller, Hawkcombe Stream, Monksilver Stream and Doniford Stream.

The river level on the Washford River at Beggearn Huish remains high and is expected to rise above flood alert threshold. Other rivers in the flood alert area may rise as a result of the heavy rainfall. Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible when river levels are at their highest between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM on 05/12/2024.

As a result, the Washford River level is expected to rise above Flood Alert criterion at Beggearn Huish. All other rivers in the area will also respond to the rainfall but not to alert thresholds.
Most at risk are the low-lying areas, roads and paths along the Rivers Washford and Aller, the Horner Water, and the Hawkcombe, Monksilver and Doniford Streams and their tributaries.

Flooding of low-lying land is possible from the Horner Water, Rivers Aller and Washford, and the Hawkcombe, Monksilver and Doniford Streams and tributaries. The current rain is forecast to pass through by early afternoon today, followed by some more rain tonight and showers tomorrow. Further rain is forecast for Friday, 30/12/2022, and the weekend. River levels are forecast to rise as a result of heavy showers over the coastal hills overnight.

Waterside properties along the Washford River should be prepared, as its levels remain higher than surrounding catchments.
However peak levels are predicted to be less than on 23rd and 27th December. And, although river levels may rise again close to the flood warning threshold at the Beggearn Huish river gauge, we are not expecting property to flood.

They are expected to peak later this evening and are not currently forecast to reach Flood Warning thresholds, apart from the Washford River which is already at Flood Warning (and will remain for the rest of today).
High river levels and bankfull conditions are expected throughout the catchment, and some roads may not be passable.

The threshold for this flood alert has just been met on the Washford River at Beggearn Huish following the showery rainfall that has fallen earlier today. Other rivers in the area have so far shown minimal response. The flooding of low-lying properties, especially along the Washford River, is a possibility early this afternoon and we will continue to monitor the situation and will issue flood warnings if required.
