Following the recent sustained rainfall the forecast for the next 5 days is for generally drier conditions. Localised showers are possible with a band of rainfall overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning being forecast. River levels on the River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Yeo at Ilchester are falling quickly, while a slow yet steady fall in level has now been observed on the River Parrett at Langport Westover and Cannington Brook. The drain level at Langport Westover pumping station is 6.54 m and at Huish Episcopi pumping station is 7.02 m. Flooding will affect the Langport to Muchelney road when this level exceeds 7.30 m and the Muchelney to Thorney road when this level exceeds 7.93 m. This Flood Alert is in force due to conditions on the Rivers Yeo and Parrett. Pumping is taking place at Huish Episcopi, Long Load and Westover pumping stations and will continue while there is spare capacity in the Rivers Yeo and Parrett.

The rainfall has passed out of the area and the current forecast has improved with minimal rainfall expected on Thursday and a reduced and less significant rainfall on Friday. The River Yeo level at Huish Episcopi pumping station is 8.73 m and has started to slowly fall. The drain level at Huish Episcopi pumping station is 7.0 m and is stable. Flooding will affect the road from Langport to Muchelney if this level exceeds 7.3 m and the road from Muchelney to Long load if this level exceeds 7.86. Pumping at Huish Episcopi pumping station is currently not possible due to high water levels in the River Yeo. We will commence pumping as soon as condition allow when the River Yeo level has fallen.

More widespread and potentially heavy showers are forecast on Wednesday from early morning onwards. The River Yeo at Muchelney is not forecast to show significant further rise in response to this rainfall.

The peak on the River Yeo passed Huish Episcopi Pumping Station at about 08:15 this morning, Tuesday 06/03/2018. The current river level is 8.54 m and is falling by approximately 16 mm per hour. The drain level at Huish Episcopi pumping station is 6.98 m and is rising at approximately 1 mm per hour. Flooding will affect the road from Langport to Muchelney if the drain level exceeds 7.3 m, the road from Muchelney to Long load if this level exceeds 7.86 m and the road from Muchelney to Thorney if this level exceeds 7.93 m. Property flooding is possible if this level exceeds 8.35 m. Pumping is not yet possible at Huish Episcopi pumping station until levels downstream of Langport on the River Parrett fall enough to stop flowing over the spillways. This situation is being monitored and reviewed. Very low rainfall, of 0 to 3 mm, is forecast over the next 24 hours in the general area.

This is the approximate field level. Flooding will affect the road from Langport to Muchelney if this level exceeds 7.3 m, the road from Muchelney to Long load if this level exceeds 7.86 and the road from Muchelney to Thorney if this level exceeds 7.93 m. Property flooding is possible if this level exceeds 8.35 m. Pumping is not yet possible at Huish Episcopi pumping station until levels downstream on the River Parrett fall sufficiently. Moderate rainfall of up to 10 mm is expected throughout this afternoon and evening.

Flooding will affect the road from Langport to Muchelney if the drain level exceeds 7.3 m, the road from Muchelney to Long load if this level exceeds 7.86 and the road from Muchelney to Thorney if this level exceeds 7.93 m. Property flooding is possible if this level exceeds 8.35 m. Some further rain or showers (up to 5 mm) are due today. This flood alert shall remain until the water is pumped out of the remaining moors around Midelney and Huish Episcopi, where we are currently operating our pumping stations. We shall update this flood alert as soon as the situation changes.

However further rain (up to 10 mm) is due overnight. Therefore the River Yeo and nearby moors around Muchelney are forecast to remain relatively high. We are currently unable to pump at Huish Episcopi pumping station because the River Yeo level is still too high and spillways are running downstream of Langport.
