River levels have been steadily falling this afternoon and evening following high levels earlier today. The River Aire at Castleford is below the level where Allerton Ings operates and levels within the Ings are starting to fall. Further rainfall is expected overnight into Sunday morning. We expect rivers to respond to this rainfall on Sunday morning, although we don’t currently expect to see the levels that were seen on Saturday 22/02/2020. We are closely monitoring the situation from our incident room. River levels have risen as a result of the heavy rainfall overnight. The spillway at Allerton Ings is operating and the washlands are filling, however levels are starting to fall. The spillway is likely to operate until this evening (22/02/20). We are closely monitoring the situation from our incident room. We expect Barnsdale Road to flood. We would expect to see the spillway at Allerton Ings operating again tomorrow following rainfall overnight tonight (22/02/20) and we would expect to see levels similar to those seen today. River levels across the Aire have peaked and are forecast to continue to fall steadily throughout Sunday night (16th February) and we are now seeing levels at Allerton Ings beginning to fall. Barnsdale Road remains flooded at this time and we expect this to remain closed throughout today. Scattered showers are forecast through today and over the first half of this week but we do not anticipate a significant river level response. We expect river levels to remain higher than average for the next 2 days. We are closely monitoring the situation. This warning remains in force. River levels have risen and remain high today, 16/02/20, as a result of the heavy rainfall associated with Storm Dennis. The spillway at Allerton Ings is operating and we expect the washlands to continue to fill throughout this afternoon, 16/02/20, until around 18:00. River levels are peaking upstream so we expect levels at Castleford to begin to fall later today. Barnsdale Road is flooded and we expect this to remain closed throughout today. Scattered showers are forecast through today and over the first half of this week but we do not anticipate a significant river level response. We expect river levels to remain higher than average for the next 2 days. We are closely monitoring the situation. This warning will remain in force until later this afternoon once levels have reduced further and the risk has passed. Barnsdale Road may still have standing water on it. Levels in the River Aire in the vicinity of Castleford remain high but are starting to fall slowly. Flood storage areas adjacent to the river have continued to fill throughout the day. The forecast for the remainder of this week is for showers but at this stage we do not anticipate any further significant river response. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the situation and our Leeds Incident Room will remain open for the rest of the week. Our operations teams will continue to assess the impact on properties and flood defences as river levels continue to fall.

Spilling of Allerton Ings is likely to continue for the next 3-4 hours, but the exact duration of the overtopping is uncertain. Consequently, flooding of property could occur later in the morning on the 26/10/19. The area most at risk is Barnsdale Road. We expect river levels to rise until approximately 12:00, 26/10/19. The River Aire at Castleford is starting to fall very slowly but it will remain high throughout Sunday and into the early hours of Monday morning, 18/03/2019. Barnsdale Road will still be affected. There may be scattered showers developing during Sunday but these are not expected to have any impact on the rivers. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
