It is expected to remain largely dry for most parts overnight on Wednesday 11th. Thursday 12th is forecast to remain dull and drizzly in places. Catchments are wet and responsive. Although river levels are starting to fall in some areas, they remain high and very reactive to any rainfall. River levels on the River Avon at Bathford and the River Avon at Bradford on Avon have peaked and are now falling. River levels on the Semington Brook at Semington are still rising, but at a very slow rate and should have peaked by the early hours of Thursday. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford peaked at 20:00 and are now falling.

Wednesday has started with a band of patchy rain moving west across the area. This will clear by the afternoon, but leave a dull cloudy day with further spells of rain possible later in the day. Thursday is forecast to remain dull and drizzly in places. Catchments are wet and responsive so it does not take very much rain to bring river levels back in to alert criteria. River levels on the River Avon at Bathford, the River Avon at Bradford on Avon and the Semington Brook at Semington are all steadily rising in response to the rainfall. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford are currently stable, but are expected to rise.

The heaviest of the rainfall this morning has largely tracked to the west of the catchment. The showery fragmented rain will clear to the north by this afternoon leading to drier weather. Further rain is forecast for Sunday but there is some uncertainty on the exact locations. The alert remains in force as catchments are wet and responsive. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, the River Avon at Bathford, the River Avon at Bradford on Avon and the Semington Brook at Semington are all steadily falling but could see some response to the rainfall this morning.

Thundery rainfall and showers are forecast between 05:00 am on 07/04/2018 and 11:00 am on 07/04/2018. Further rain is forecast for Saturday night and throughout Sunday. Catchments are wet and responsive after the rain earlier this week so rivers are expected to react to these thundery showers. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, the River Avon at Bathford, the River Avon at Bradford on Avon and the Semington Brook at Semington are all steadily falling, but are likely to respond to the rainfall forecast for Saturday morning.

Scattered light showers are forecast for Tuesday. More widespread showers are forecast early Wednesday morning and some may be heavy at times. River levels on the Bristol Avon are still rising in most places but are due to stabilise by early evening. The river levels may rise again later on Wednesday in response to the rain. Upto 20 millimetres of rainfall has fallen over the area during the night. The rivers continue to rise in response to the rainfall as it drains through the catchment and into the rivers. Further showers are forecast throughout Monday but with smaller amounts of rainfall than in previous days. The rivers are forecast to peak later today but we are actively monitoring the river levels and will keep this information updated.

The majority of Sunday will be dry until later on in the afternoon. A band of heavy and persistent rain will move across the area overnight Sunday and into Monday. The most intense rainfall will be between 23:00 and 09:00. River levels are generally stable however, as the rain passes through, this will lead to a rise in all river levels in the area therefore we are issuing all the Flood Alerts for the Bristol Avon area. There is an outside possibility of a couple of flood warnings being issued overnight but due to the uncertainty, we will not know the exact location of these until the rain passes through. We will be carrying out routine checks around the Bristol Avon area to ensure that the additional water will be able to travel through the system as expected. This message will be updated again Monday morning once the latest weather forecasts and models have been run and assessed.

Persistent bands of rain with some heavy downpours of rainfall is forecast between 12 noon on 30/03/2018 and and 12 noon on 31/03/2018. The ground is wet and rivers are likely to respond to the rainfall. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford are stable and river levels on the Semington Brook at Semington are falling. They may rise later today or overnight in response to the rainfall but we will continue to monitor and provide updates as required.

We are expecting rainfall totals of 10-20 mm this afternoon and evening, which will result in the River Avon catchment to rise again in the early hours of Thursday (15 March 2018). While the river levels are currently falling be prepared that they will rise again. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are currently falling but expect to rise again in the early hours of Thursday. Little rain is expected today (Tuesday 13th March) but we are approximately 10 mm during Wednesday afternoon / evening. This rain may cause levels to rise slightly on Thursday 15th March, but it is not expected to result in Flood Warnings being issued. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are currently falling. The Mid Bristol Avon Flood Alert remains in force due to rising river levels (Monday the 12th March). Little rain is forecast tonight and through tomorrow (Tuesday 13th March) which will provide opportunity for levels to stabilise. We expect the River Avon at Bradford on Avon to peak around 6 am on Tuesday the 13 March 2018. Flood Warnings are not expected to reach criteria. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey continue to rise. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow.

The Mid Bristol Avon Flood Alert remains in force. Today’s light showers continue to maintain rising river levels within the River Avon catchment. The Met office is forecasting 5 to 10 mm of rain on Monday, which will cause a rise in river levels, with a peak expected in the early hours of Tuesday. These are not expected to result in flood warnings being issued only flood alerts but we will have a better appreciation tomorrow and will provide an update again then. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are stable.

At this time we are not forecasting flood warning criteria to be reached for Sunday but we continue to monitor the situation. The Avon is expected to peak in the early hours of Saturday morning and currently we are not anticipating flood warnings to be issued but we will continue to monitor the situation. Over the weekend a further 12 mm of rainfall is forecast on Saturday and possibly again on Sunday. River levels on the River Avon at Bathford, River Avon at Saltford, River Boyd at Wick, Broadmead Brook at West Kington and Brislington Brook at Brislington are expected to rise in response to the rain.

We have deployed temporary defences in Bradford on Avon. In view of the forecast these are likely to remain in place until Tuesday as a precaution. The River Avon at Bathford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon and Semington Brook at Semington have peaked but may rise further in response to the forecast rainfall. Although the rain has now cleared the area, rivers are still responding to this rainfall. The next 48 hours are expected to be largely dry, with a forecast of more rainfall on 29/12/2017. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford and the Semington Brook at Semington are steadily rising but should be peaking towards this afternoon. The River Avon at Bradford on Avon is currently rising. The River Avon at Bathford is currently peaking but may see further response as the water moves its way through the catchment.

Flooding is possible on Tuesday evening and into the early hours of Wednesday the 27/12/2017. A further band of rainfall, 8 to 15 mm, is expected tonight and into the early hours of Wednesday morning 27/12/2017. This heavy rainfall will maintain the rivers at elevated levels and could result in further flooding to low lying land and roads. Catchments are saturated and remain responsive to rainfall. River levels on the River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are slowly rising. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide a further update if the situation changes.
